At the beginning of June we, the 9th graders, had the amazing opportunity to spend five days in South England. We were a group of 49 students and 4 teachers, that went there by bus and the ride lasted 17 hours. The bus left in front of our school building at 3 am und we arrived at 7 pm. We took the boat from France to England. As soon as we arrived, we were picked up by our host families. The houses of our host families were located in Worthing, which means that we always had to take our bus to all of the cities we visited. Still, we had the chance to improve our English and experience the life in England.
Since we arrived on Monday, the programme started on Tuesday – in Brighton. Early in the morning, we went to Beachy Head and took a walk with the whole group. It was very windy. After that, we drove to Brighton and had some free time to do a city-rallye in small groups. We saw the Palace Pier and some groups also visited a shopping mall called “Churchill Square“.
On Wednesday we had to get up very early to go London. We got off the bus at Greenwich Park to walk to our boat for a sightseeing trip on the River Themse. We have seen many places like the London Eye, the Tower, London Bridge and Tower Bridge. We then arrived in Westminster. After we went to the Westminster Abbey and had some free time to get something to eat, we got back to our big group and visited the Buckingham Palace. To get back to our bus we had to take the famous London Underground – the Jubilee Line.
The next day we made a trip to Portsmouth, popular for its marine ship. Our schedule included visiting the HMS Victory- a museum inside of the marine ship. Next the teachers had planned a city rallye for us, but since the weather was was so bad, we didn‘t have to. Because of that, all of the groups went to the Ghunwarf Outletcenter, where we had some free time to eat and do shopping.
On the last day, we visited London for a second time. This time, we went to walk through China Town and Leicester Square. Afterwards, we went to a museum inside of Tower Bridge. We had a very beautiful view from above. Following that, we took the Underground to get to Camden Town. There we split into little groups and had some free time to discover Camden. At last we took the Underground back to the bus and drove back to Frankfurt. This time we took the Channel Tunnel.
Overall, the trip to England was a great experience for all of us and we would recommend it to everyone!
